Mexico. Micron Technology's new location will be in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and will focus on dynamic random access memory (DRAM) product development and information technology operations, as part of its global expansion strategy.
The company also announced that team members at the new headquarters will work closely with the company's existing teams and operations in the United States.
"Mexico has a strong business ecosystem, spanning the semiconductor and technology industries, as well as a highly talented workforce," said Scott DeBoer, executive vice president of technology and products at Micron Technology. "The Mexico Engineering and Operations Center complements Micron's current product engineering efforts in North America. We are confident that our presence in Mexico will enhance our ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions to our customers, contributing to our growth and leadership in the industry."
This expansion into Mexico is part of the company's strategy to expand its access to the global engineering talent required to develop the next-generation products needed to meet AI-driven demands.
The final selection of the site in Guadalajara is underway. Hiring will accelerate in the fall of 2024, with the goal of linking more than 100 team members by the end of 2024 and having additional growth in the coming years.
The new engineering and operations center is the first of its kind for Micron in Latin America and is considered a good addition to the company's Global Product Development and IT/Operations Centers around the world.
"Mexico offers a wide range of technical talent in a new location, which will further reinforce Micron's leadership and innovation," said April Arnzen, executive vice president, Micron Technology. "Given Mexico's proximity to our U.S. operations and similar time zones, our new engineering and operations center will create strong opportunities for closer collaboration with teams across North America."
These sites execute the company's product and technology development roadmaps, while providing a broad portfolio of global support service functions. Micron has already announced that it will continue to invest in all of these sites, aligning with its plans to meet the long-term opportunities for memory.
