Colombia. Authorities presented the second version of the digital identity system with biometric security and new functionalities for citizens.
The updated digital ID is available as a mobile application and allows identification, virtual transactions using facial biometrics and PIN, receipt of notifications from public and financial institutions, as well as authentication and digital signature of public and private documents.
The National Registry of Civil Status reported 1.8 million registered citizens last March, when facial authentication tests were carried out with the participation of several banks in the country. The institution expects to close 2023 with 10 million registrations.
"These new digital services transform our society and improve the quality of life of Colombians because they save time and money," said the National Registrar, Alexander Vega Rocha.
ID is also available for Colombian expats living in the United States and for digital nomads residing in Colombia.
