Mexico. 23% of the national GDP would be affected by insecurity, a problem that generates a negative economic impact on the operation and results of the country's companies.
A recent Bank of Mexico survey of economic and financial specialists revealed that the factors that could hinder economic growth are related to problems of public insecurity.
According to the study, carried out by Prosegur Research, the most common crimes are robberies and assaults, with the activity of criminal organizations being the main risk to the national security of the country, which continues to register more than 30,000 homicides annually for the fifth consecutive year.
"One of the most obvious impacts is the increased expenses that companies have to incur, as they must invest in additional security measures, hire surveillance personnel and acquire insurance against theft or damage to protect their facilities and assets. This affects their profitability and competitiveness in an increasingly challenging market," explained Héctor Gutiérrez, CEO of Prosegur Security Mexico.
In the same vein, the World Economic Forum has stated that insecurity and crime can have a direct impact on investment and business development, becoming significant obstacles to doing business in Mexico.
In addition, the agency has pointed out in its Global Competitiveness Index that the lack of security can discourage foreign investment, affect economic growth and limit employment opportunities.
"This violence can create an environment of insecurity that negatively affects businesses, from loss of life to diminished confidence and investment. Business theft, whether of merchandise, assets or cash, is another major security challenge facing domestic companies," Gutierrez added.
How companies are tackling the problem
All these security challenges have caused Mexican companies to take strategic measures to protect their facilities, assets and employees. One of them is the hiring of specialized security services, given their effectiveness in significantly mitigating risks.
According to Prosegur Security , companies have innovative technologies as one of their strongest cards, thanks to solutions such as video surveillance systems, access controls, alarms, fire detection systems and perimeter security systems, among others.
