International. After completing an investigation of more than 3 years, F5 has just presented the 2023 Digital Enterprise Maturity Index Report, a report on the monitoring of digital transformation processes carried out by various organizations.
The process was carried out through a survey on the state of the application strategy: "We have defined six key techniques that are essential to accelerate digital transformation in organizations. Our analysis was based on responses from 290 respondents, carefully selected by the apparatus of their answers to twelve core questions that reflect the data from our model."
Six key technical capabilities were evaluated: infrastructure, data management, application delivery, observability and automation, SRE practices, and security. In addition, three categories were derived to classify organizations according to their digital maturity: "Doers", "Amateurs" and "Lazy".
Findings: "Doers" Are Still a Minority
The results reveal that a small percentage of organizations have reached maturity levels in all six key capabilities and are leading the way as "Doers," with 4% in this category by 2023. In turn, "Amateurs" represent 65% of organizations, which are on the right track, but still need to improve in certain areas.
Finally, the "Lazy", who make up 31% of organizations, are lagging behind in measures related to the six key capabilities, but still have the opportunity to move forward by investing in IT modernization.
In this way, the report seeks to highlight the importance of adopting an adaptable enterprise architecture to keep pace with technological evolution and take advantage of new business opportunities. In addition, the critical role of technology leadership in this process is highlighted, as modernization and the adoption of new capabilities require entrenched approaches and a change in operational practices.
"The report's findings demonstrate that more digitally mature organizations are leading the way, strategically embracing public cloud, artificial intelligence and machine learning for competitive advantage and new business horizons. Digital maturity is driving tangible results in business and IT. Organizations must embrace change and prioritize standardization, automation, and observability to thrive in today's digital economy," said an F5 spokesperson.
In conclusion
Companies are progressing into the digital business era, but it seems they must continue to invest in their key technical capabilities to stabilize capabilities and achieve success in an ever-changing business landscape.
According to the 2023 Digital Enterprise Maturity Index Report, the challenges are not insurmountable. In fact, for the most part, these organizations have extensive experience that allows them to adopt new technologies. However, what often hinders transformation are challenges related to people and processes, which are more complicated to solve by a corporate culture built on outdated practices and methods.
The most mature organizations in terms of digitization, which are called "Doers", have successfully navigated cultural and technological challenges with skill, and the results are remarkable. These organizations are reaping benefits thanks to their efforts and investments in digital transformation, which provides them with new business opportunities and competitive advantages.
In short, any organization has the potential to become a digital business. The question is not if it will reach that point, but rather when they will achieve it. To learn more about the report and findings, download the 2023 Digital Enterprise Maturity Index Report.
