International. Between 50% and 90% would reduce losses due to thefts to retail stores thanks to facial biometrics, a security measure that allows thieves to be identified by their face.
This is reported by the company RecFaces, an international provider of this technology that incorporates advanced algorithms to guarantee data privacy and comply with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD).
Theft on the rise
Countries such as the United Kingdom have seen a recent increase in thefts from the years 2018 and 2019, as reported by Charged, a British retail news agency.
This is happening just as crime rates are on the rise. Numbeo, an independent research portal, assigns a "high" rating to this indicator to several cities in Latin America.
How does facial biometrics work?
Recognition systems help security services monitor the store and promptly identify any suspicious activity or violations.
Cameras installed in the store then capture video images that the system uses to extract facial images and create biometric profiles stored in a database.
The system then continuously cross-references video data in real time with the biometric profiles already catalogued in the database.
In case a customer previously involved in theft, vandalism or similar incidents appears on the "stop-list", the system notifies the security service, which causes closer monitoring of said individual.
Features & Benefits
According to RecFaces, this technology offers significant advantages, including:
- It helps reduce losses due to theft, theft and vandalism.
- It helps improve the efficiency of security services.
- Avoid manual screening of images from multiple cameras.
- Decreases the potential for human error in store security.
- It allows you to interact with consumers by incorporating biometrics into marketing systems.
- Stop-lists and biometric data on criminal gangs and individual criminals can be shared.
- Crime resolution rates are increasing.
