Colombia. Google announced the launch of 4,000 scholarships available for young people in this country to be trained in cybersecurity issues.
The technology giant made an alliance with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) and the NGO Colnodo, for Google Career Certificates with a focus on cybersecurity, aimed at supporting the training of Colombians, as a way to contribute to their professional growth and a safer digital transformation in the country.
Colombia has enormous potential for its digital transformation, but still faces significant challenges, such as the digital talent gap. According to estimates by the Ministry of ICT, by 2025 the country will need between 68,000 and 112,000 software developers. In addition, according to figures from ManpowerGroup, the shortage of talent affects 74% of Colombian companies, making it difficult to find qualified personnel in the field of technology.
Google said that the Career Certificates are part of its program called "Grow with Google", which seeks to respond to this problem from education, with a focus on the development of digital skills in high demand in the technology industry to promote greater employability and inclusion.
Giovanni Stella, General Manager of Google Colombia, Central America and the Caribbean, said that "these Career Certificates, in Colombia, are already providing training opportunities in high-demand digital skills, generating inclusion, employability and significant improvements in people's careers. As of 2023, more than 21,500 people have graduated from the program in Latin America, and more than 80% of them report having experienced a positive impact on their career paths thanks to the skills and tools acquired."
Young people who wish to access scholarships in cybersecurity can enter the Colnodo website and fill out the registration form before August 10. The beneficiaries will be announced in September, the month in which the courses will begin.
