Mexico. Jesús Rodríguez Almeida, head of the Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District (SSPDF), announced that the number of video surveillance cameras will be doubled, from 8,088 to 16,000.
He affirmed that the theft of home room and business has decreased by 6.7% from January to May this year, in relation to the same period of 2012, and considered important the collaboration with the citizenship and the Private Initiative, as a key piece to succeed in security.
During the signing of the collaboration agreement with an alarm company, the police chief indicated that the agency deals with these crimes with functional and proven operational strategies, such as the Quadrant Program, optimized this year to 847 quadrants. Through a statement, Rodríguez Almeida said that the implementation of technology developed specifically for the prevention of crimes is an important element, such as the video surveillance camera system that will be expanded from 8,088 to almost 16,000.
The response time to high-impact crimes, such as kidnapping, vehicle theft, house room, commerce, passerby, among others, on average is 2 minutes with 48 seconds, and in congruence with these achievements, the agreement with this company established since 2005 is renewed.
For his part, the general director of the company, José Ramón Barreda, stressed that the signing of this agreement represents a great opportunity to contribute with actions that allow reducing criminal acts, such as theft from commerce and home room.
He assured that this is achieved through the implementation of a comprehensive system of attention to emergencies and reaction protocols, which in joint work, the SSP-DF and the company have been developing since their first agreement in 2005 and that today yields a total of 220 thousand events.
