How to improve video surveillance with AI analytics

Videovigilancia con Inteligencia Artificial

Latin America. Johnson Controls is committed to Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool to improve the performance of video surveillance in Latin America, which is why it introduced AI analytics in its security-focused products.

AI analytics, according to Johnson Controls, are used to automate processes, perform tasks and make decisions, in order to improve safety management for visitors and employees of any building. According to the brand, it added this technology in its product portfolio, to prepare for the current and future challenges that may arise.

More specifically, Johnson Controls' Artificial Intelligence solution is a deep learning platform, with future-scalable effectiveness, which makes it more accurate over time, because the more data the program receives, the more competent its deep learning algorithm will be. Subject that increases its effectiveness, compared to conventional algorithmic operations.

Luis Enrique Bonilla, Business Development Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Johnson Controls, assures that "AI analytics act as virtual sensors that expand the use of existing technology, which allows to provide actionable intelligence that can be used in security, operations and that increases the availability of the metrics that drive the services, just to mention a few."

In this sense, for the brand, since data is the fuel that feeds AI, video cameras and access control sensors are key to nourishing it, as these systems and devices constantly record a large amount of information, which makes them the key point to "see" where the human gaze does not reach.

"We can affirm that Artificial Intelligence goes beyond just collecting data and, in the case of video surveillance, it can be used to detect patterns, adding the data it collects and analyzes along with historical data, which allows future predictions and establish connections of events without apparent relationship," said Bonilla.

Now, for Johnson Controls, AI allows the integration of artificial vision systems, this in turn allows to extract and classify the visual elements of faces, objects, scenes and activities, facilitating the categorization of content in images and video. With which it is possible to verify images that could be used to "deceive" the system.

Inteligencia Artificial para el Reconocimiento Facial

Remember that another tool of AI is facial recognition, indispensable in video surveillance. This allows that, before the appearance of a face previously identified as suspicious or reported, the system is able to generate the necessary alarms to keep safe those who are in the area, whether visitors or employees.

In that sense, Bonilla pointed out that: "The AI analytics of Jonhson Controls empower those who are in charge of access control to differentiate typical characteristics of the morphology of the face thanks to their 3D recognition. This helps them make decisions, by preventing two people from entering through the system with the use of the same credential, that is, it grants a powerful anti-fraud capacity."

Finally, the brand seeks that AI applied to video surveillance helps, among other objectives, to make electronic security more relevant, with an increase in its operational efficiency. As well as to contribute, directly, to preserve the physical integrity of the personnel in charge of the monitoring operations of these systems.
