Mexico. The retailer Liverpool made an upgrade of its video surveillance system to IP in the Insurgentes Galleries shopping center. The project was carried out with technology from NVT Phybridge.
Liverpool was founded more than 150 years ago by Jean Baptiste Ebrard, who imported clothes from Europe to sell in downtown Mexico City. Today, the high-end retailer is Mexico's largest department store chain with more than 100 locations.
Liverpool also owns and operates 23 shopping centres across the country; including Galerías Insurgentes, a 10,000m2 shopping center in Mexico City. The mall was built and opened in 1992 and still relied on an analog surveillance system. To continue to provide the best service to its customers, Liverpool decided it was time to modernise the surveillance capabilities at Insurgente Galleries.
Liverpool wanted to implement an IP surveillance system that offered high-resolution viewing and recording capabilities throughout the mall. The organization was interested in leveraging the existing twisted pair wiring that ran throughout the mall to reduce project costs and improve return on investment.
However, the organization wasn't sure how to support the new IP cameras exactly where they were needed, given the 330-foot (100 m) range limitation of standard Ethernet switches. Liverpool was hesitant to install new IDF cabinets, as this would increase project costs, business disruption and implementation time. Dissatisfied with traditional network design philosophies, Liverpool sought an alternative solution to meet its digital transformation goals.
Modern LAN design
The organization discovered the FLEX24 long-range Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch and engaged with a digital transformation specialist NVT Phybridge to learn more. The client then moved into the principles of modern LAN, which help organizations simplify and accelerate their IP modernization while creating a secure and robust IP-enabled network.
The distribution partner, Disesol, had used NVT Phybridge's innovations in the past and was confident in the solution. The award-winning FLEX24 switch, powered by SmartPathPoE, transforms any new or existing twisted pair infrastructure into a robust and secure IP backbone for any IoT deployment. The FLEX24 switch offers fast Ethernet and PoE++ over a multi-pair UTP cable with range capacities up to 2,000 feet (610 m); that's six times more than a standard PoE switch. Liverpool was impressed with the solution and decided to go ahead with the deployment of IP surveillance; leveraging modern LAN principles and FLEX24 innovation to achieve incredible results.
Secure and robust local area network
Liverpool leveraged NVT Phybridge SmartPathPoE technology to establish secure, robust, point-to-point connections to every IP camera; significantly reducing the need for IDF cabinets.
Maximize ROI
Using the FLEX24 solution, Liverpool was able to simplify network requirements as they were modernised for IP surveillance; reducing total implementation time by three months and saving more than $50,000.
Build physically separate networks for dedicated IP applications
As organizations continue to deploy smart devices, the data network becomes increasingly complex, difficult to manage, and vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. By leveraging the innovations of the Phybridge NVT switch and modern LAN design, Liverpool was able to maintain a physically separate network for the new IP surveillance system, ensuring a cyber-secure and easy-to-manage LAN solution.
Liverpool took a proactive approach to finding new and better ways to support its intellectual property modernisation goals in a financially and socially responsible way. The organization was able to deploy more than 50 new IP cameras throughout the mall, including service corridors. The security team can now monitor all activity at the mall from a centralized location using enhanced viewing and recording capabilities.
By leveraging the modern LAN design and FLEX24 solution, the customer was able to:
- Maintain a physically separate network for the new IP surveillance system; Ensure optimal performance, cyber security and reliability
- Significantly reduce IDF cabinet requirements to ensure an easy-to-manage surveillance network with less complexity and day two support issues
- Reduce the total implementation time by three months.
- Reduce infrastructure costs by more than $50,000
"The NVT Phybridge series of long-range PoE solutions enables a smooth and simple transition from analog to IP, while providing significant cost savings and return on investment for the customer," said Alfredo Carrasco, Managing Director of Disesol.
