How to choose an effective video surveillance system for the Retail sector

International. Dahua Technology revealed a series of recommendations to select the most effective system for this type of sector.

The company pointed out that if we start from the great changes observed by the retail sector in terms of operation and customer service, we must focus that it is aimed at the automation and digitalization of the purchase process, where the physical and virtual space can be mixed to obtain the best service and experience for buyers and in this process, The electronic security or video surveillance of the sector is moving towards artificial intelligence, combining the image with data analytics and deep learning, which allow the retail trade to improve its sales process.

In that sense, video surveillance cameras have taken a central role for image and data analytics that these systems can issue to the user as a support that goes beyond the security of their business, so, for Dahua, among the considerations that the owners of a retail trade must take into account when adopting or modernizing a video surveillance system are:

That the video and information of the corresponding POS (system in a retail store where a customer makes a payment in exchange for goods or services, using payment terminals, touch screens and various hardware and software options) can be displayed simultaneously both live and in playback mode.

· A system that allows text search to find invoices and their associated video recordings.

· A Fisheye camera that provides heatmap functionality that shows hot and cold areas based on customer flow. This will allow to improve business analysis and, at the same time, provide a 360-degree image of the store's sales floor.

For Dahua, this type of system will provide retail, benefits such as security and loss prevention; prevention or detection of internal and external theft; ATM fraud; as well as a safe and secure purchase process for the customer.

It also offers business intelligence for OPEX (operating expense, operating expenses, or operating expenses), increase store efficiency, and improve profits by understanding and leveraging the direct relationship between in-store human traffic data and transaction data.

Unlike e-commerce, the traditional retail sector faces many challenges in accurately calculating visitor flow to create an efficient adjustment of business operations according to flow analysis and conversion rates. In the entrance area, for example, Dahua provides counting cameras to visualize the number of people leaving and entering a store, at what times and on what days the highest public traffic is recorded. This traffic analysis can greatly improve business efficiency.

The firm's 3D cameras are able to distinguish people from objects and backgrounds, children's objects, and people who make purchases in groups, among others. One of the advantages of this system is to be able to optimize the staff, identifying the flow cycles throughout the day, month or year, being able to align the staff and the client-personnel relationship with peak hours by integrating the management of the workforce with the flow data. They also allow you to create a customer demographic (age, gender, expression, etc.), facial profile detection and generate demographic reports.

Dahua Ultra Smart series cameras support up to 140dB of WDR (Wide DInamic Range) for sharp image quality, even in high contrast or backlit environments. With them, you can clearly control the entrances of the store at all times.

In the store area, Dahua also provides different solutions, and when combined with a Fisheye camera, the shelf areas along with the entire store are completely covered. In addition, advanced analysis can provide a heat map of visitor flow distribution. Increasing surveillance coverage greatly reduces theft, providing a safe shopping environment.

Already at the checkout counter, the Dahua POS system with the POS 2.0 version, which integrates video and audio, allows you to search for information related to the point of sale, with a great capacity for analysis to offer a daily Business Intelligence (BI) report. All integrated with the management software of integrated management solutions Dahua, DSS Pro, compatible with CCTV (closed circuit television), access control, Artificial Intelligence, video intercoms, license plate reading, among others.
