Mexico. According to a study conducted by the consultancy IMS Research, the video surveillance market in Latin America maintained a growth rate of 40.5% from 2008 to 2016, and according to the forecasts made in that report, it is expected that this rate will be maintained at least until 2020.
In fact, it is considered that by that year the sale of video surveillance devices will reach USD $ 200,000,000. Currently, companies are living a process of digital transformation driven by trends such as the increase in connectivity or the Internet of Things (IoT) that impacts their processes and business models.
Against this background, Axis Communications held its second edition of the "Axis Solutions Conference 2017" (1-2 August), an event that since 2015, offers a totally dynamic and innovative experience to end users, integrators and distributors with the aim of showing its wide portfolio of integral solutions for each of the vertical markets: education, infrastructure, logistics, citizen surveillance and retail trade. In addition, it is designed to share the latest in intelligent security solutions, as well as adopting industry trends such as: cybersecurity, analytics, integration and interoperability in a constantly evolving environment.
Axis Solutions Conference was attended by Ricardo Finito López, former Mexican professional boxer and Juan Carlos Carillo, Director of Cybersecurity and Privacy of PricewaterhouseCoopers, among other references within the security industry, who offered conferences on the importance of new trends in cybersecurity and business success.
"It is undoubtedly an event that brings great value to the security industry. In a single space where it is possible to learn about the latest developments in hardware and software, sharing directly with manufacturers and specialists about future trends, among other activities. All this is of great help to plan future investments since, to ensure profitability in the coming years, organizations have to change the mentality: from sale-product to sale-solutions/services, ensuring the return on investment in each project" said Francisco Ramírez Country Manager for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean of Axis Communications.
Specifically, Axis, together with its partners Belden, Tamron, NVT, Genetec, Panduit, ISS, Radwin, Optex, Siklu, 2N, Netcamara, Anixter, Grupo Dice, Inalarm, ScanSource, QNAP, Comtrend, Milestone and Raytec showed systems and equipment that can be used in various sectors and types of business.
State-of-the-art security
Axis has always been at the forefront in the field of video surveillance technologies and in recent years, it has been a pioneer in this market by demonstrating the business potential that IP solutions and their multiple applications provide to any type of organization. Currently, Axis Communications divides its market into three different sectors:
Small, affordable and reliable solutions: AXIS Companion Line is a complete video surveillance solution designed to meet the needs of small businesses. Composed of cameras, recorders. The video management software is compatible with all the company's devices, allowing you to extend any system to adapt to changing business situations. Full integration of IP cameras, video encoders and network video door entry systems ensures the ability to get the most out of the video surveillance system.
Easy-to-install medium solutions: AXIS Camera Station S20 Recorder Series consists of equipment designed for reliable high-definition surveillance. They have all the necessary software installed, including licenses, and have been pre-configured in order to minimize installation time. Combined with cameras from Axis' broad product portfolio, they form an out-of-the-box solution for medium-sized installations of up to 64 channels, where active surveillance is required.
Large solutions: Axis network video products incorporate VAPIX®, the industry-standard application programming interface, which makes it easy to develop custom software solutions. This interface allows partners to develop applications (such as intelligent video applications) compatible with Axis network cameras and video encoders. In addition, the AXIS Camera Application Platform (ACAP) enables the development of compatible and reliable third-party applications that can be downloaded to cameras and video encoders so that users can access the widest range of applications on the market.
A smarter safer world
The IoT trend is now focused on obtaining better security, and providing intelligence to companies, organizations, people and cities thanks to cameras with high connectivity, video intercoms, audio equipment, access controls, face recognition software and license plates. Axis Communications adds more capabilities to these devices, while allowing customers to focus on their core activities for growth and enabling security specialists to enhance the services they offer. With the new trends in technology that impact the security and video surveillance market, Axis through its products and solutions offers its customers:
Cybersecurity: The Internet of Things has evolved from a concept to a reality, although it also carries challenges. Although the millions of IP-enabled devices are thought to hold the promise for the future, precautions should be taken for security pitfalls. Considering that most of this equipment is connected and installed by customers, it is up to manufacturers to take responsibility for insuring them to the fullest.
Security as a Service (SaaS): Customers are expected to stop thinking of video surveillance as a collection of hardware and software connected to a network. Instead, it will begin to be visualized as a service: remote and professional, with storage and monitoring of video managed from the place where the person is.
Integrated solutions: Axis Communications will continue the trend of offering solutions for specific problems, rather than offering unique hardware/software. In the end, customers are not looking to buy a camera, or a video management system (VMS), what they really want is to protect their wealth, customers, staff and, in general, achieve greater security.
Extensive use in analytics: While video quality is a basic feature of security cameras today, ultimately, the information that is generated must be analyzed. Recent technology advances such as thermal imaging and improved capabilities for low-light conditions have been important steps for the industry. But in the end, they generate more data that needs to be reviewed.
Deep Learning: With all this data collected, deep learning technologies begin to take relevance. They use pattern recognition software to "learn" about different types of behaviors through the multiple security cameras installed around the world. Techniques that incorporate artificial intelligence will have wider use within the security industry.
Beyond the video: Video surveillance does not only involve the safety of people, places or objects. It also now includes physical access control, two-way communication and emergency management, in parallel, and that can be managed from a considerable instance. To further expand the concept of integration, security cameras must also be coordinated with smart doors, intercoms and speakers, locally and remotely.
"We are proud that interest in our flexible and scalable video surveillance solutions has taken hold so strongly in our market. We are very pleased to be pioneers in this sector through cutting-edge technologies that help organizations meet their specific security requirements and provide them with the necessary tools so that they can achieve their business and expansion objectives," concluded Ramírez.
