United States. In 2021, the headquarters building implemented a new layer of planned security to deter crime and violence on the outer ten acres, consisting of a three-acre construction site, a two-acre open parking lot, a five-acre open parking lot, an acre garage, and an access road between them. This phase was funded with a $1.2 million bond in 2017.
In relation, the installation of a new fence with full-height Turnlock 100 turnstiles makes it possible to protect the outdoor parking lots of the police through detection and prevention and the improvement of the security of the perimeter of the headquarters with protection and deterrence.
On the other hand, among the initial features of the installation is a fence, which is composed of individual steel pillars secured vertically to a frame of specially formed rails and I-beam posts. The pale ones bend outward at the top to deter intruders from climbing over attempts. At the north and south entrances located on an access road behind the headquarters building, the HySecurity and Lift Master motorized gates are located to allow only authorized police officers and staff to access the safe outdoor areas by car. Adjacent to each of these vehicle gates are the Boon Edam Turnlock 100 full-height turnstiles to allow pedestrian police officers to enter the parking area and the headquarters building.
Also, the fence forces all public visitors to walk along the sidewalk to the front of the building to enter through the main entrance and the projection room. However, any police officer who is crossing the lot from the mayor's building can use their credential to access the exclusive side entrance for headquarters building staff by entering through a third Boon Edam Turnlock 100 turnstile.
For Paul M. Schuster, corporate account manager at Gensler Architects and Guidepost Solutions, LLC (in charge of developing the solutions and plans) he narrated: "One concern is that if one person can open the entrance, others will follow and outnumber the responding officers. One-on-one access granted by the Turnlock 100 turnstile allows police to better monitor and separate people who might be disruptive or who might follow officers accessing the safe area."
"This new layer of deterrence makes our officers and personnel feel safer and protects our fleet of vehicles and the back of the building from random attacks, bombings or shootings. We are very pleased to have completed this second phase of our long-term physical security plan."
