Latin America. In the town of Lobos, in the province of Buenos Aires, the organization Somos Marea Lobos together with SP Seguridad and SoftGuard worked together to prevent gender violence through the SmartPanics application that allows the user to report incidents to the authorities easily and quickly with multiple control and management functions which strengthens the accompaniment for users.
Regarding the benefits of using this APP, Jaquelina Cerone, coordinator of Somos Marea Lobos shared her story and experience through an interview conducted in the offices of SoftGuard, there she argued how relevant the fight against gender violence is and the naturalization of it, which is more common in certain types of populations that have grown up under that social construction that abuse is normal. Therefore, technological articulation is of the utmost importance as a prevention tool to strengthen the safety and integrity of women and that it is available to all, in any context or scenario.
Cerone added, "PPPs generally don't suit the user. When we were shown this APP we said: yes, it is salvation. It's what we need. SmartPanics is a before and after." He also added: "All the use cases of the APP have been effective, in terms of action (accompaniment) and tranquility."
It should be noted that the APP among its various functions provides the location and allows you to receive photos and videos of the aggressor or emergency situation in the monitoring center. Additionally, a virtual guardian accompanies the woman on her daily tours of public roads and gives notice to the group of people close to her who have arrived well at their home or destination.
In conclusion, the Security Companies point out "the use of technology specially developed for the safety of people allows us to address the problem of gender violence, providing containment and accompaniment to the victim."
