Analysis: Integrated radar and video sensors will improve perimeter security

Sensores de radar y video integrados mejorarán la seguridad perimetralLatin America. Two technologies are said to be better than one, and security solutions that integrate video and radar capabilities are a great example of this. Combining both technologies increases perimeter security with multidimensional insight, helping to see and respond to incidents more quickly, a need that companies of any size have.

Although they are very different technologies with different security applications, putting them together obtains a much larger and more effective sum, achieving what is called, multidimensional awareness, a kind of superpower that allows detecting and verifying threats to perimeter security and taking quick and effective measures to minimize the negative impacts of a threat.

The first 'dimension' of consciousness comes from radar, which makes it possible to detect people or vehicles crossing the perimeter boundary, and follow them to ensure they only access authorized areas of the site. The second 'dimension' is high-resolution intelligent video that allows you to quickly identify potential security threats, see exactly what's happening, and respond more quickly to security breaches to protect people and assets.

While the security potential of integrated solutions is enormous, the practice is a bit more complicated. For example, you could consider integrating radar with video individually, or working with partners to do the integration work, but the time and costs involved can be prohibitive, and the right skills are hard to find.

"To overcome these challenges and maximize perimeter protection, Hikvision has created the industry's first all-in-one radar PTZ solution. This combines a Hikvision radar sensor with a state-of-the-art Hikvision PTZ Camera, and with Deep Learning capabilities to identify security threats and respond more quickly to any incident," explains Camilo Muñoz, Channel Sales Director at Hikvision Mexico, who indicates that this solution will be available in our country from Q3 2021.

By offering multidimensional insight with radar and video sensors integrated into the same unit, the firm's solution helps all types of organizations improve their perimeter security, from industrial sites and construction sites, to automotive dealerships, universities, mines and a wide range of sites and facilities.

When Hikvision's radar sensor detects a moving object, an alert is sent to the built-in PTZ camera, which zooms in and focuses on it to see if it is a human or suspicious vehicle. An alert is also automatically sent to the security team to respond more quickly and protect people and assets. The three important benefits of the solution are:

1. Fast and automated threat detection: Based on AI algorithms that differentiate people and vehicles from other moving objects. The PTZ's camera is activated by potential security threats detected by the radar sensor, allowing security teams to verify security incidents quickly and easily.

2. Large coverage area with the ability to track multiple people and vehicles: The PTZ Radar offers 100 meters of radar coverage, allowing security teams to follow multiple suspicious people and vehicles as they move around the site and respond faster in the event of a security threat.

3. Fast and cost-effective deployment: The solution is very quick and easy to install, with a simple portal for setting up devices. This ensures that the entire implementation process is easy and fast.
