Second wave of contagion, negligence is combated with (artificial) intelligence

Rodrigo Escamilla - DahuaLatin America. In March of this year the confinement began as a strategy to minimize the impact of Covid-19, during the first weeks Dahua Technology announced the arrival in Mexico of what it called the first line of technological defense against the Coronavirus, that is, the availability of thermographic video surveillance cameras specially designed for body temperature measurement with a high degree of precision.

These devices worked perfectly for the environments that were designed, large companies that needed to monitor and take temperature records of hundreds or thousands of people in a matter of minutes. Organizations from the industrial sector and the mining industry were the first to use this technology with excellent results.

Months later, the federal government announced the plan to return to the new normal with the intention of allowing a significant advance in the economic reopening of the country, considering prevention actions such as hand washing, body temperature measurement, use of masks or face masks, healthy distance and capacity control, among others. Strategy that practically any type and size of company had to put into practice.

However, seven months after the implementation of this first strategy, an upward trend in the rates of contagion was announced, which contemplates the possible regression to red on the epidemiological traffic light scale, the hardening of the measures and the possibility of returning to the confinement phase with the economic implications that this would represent.

This scenario is not exclusive to Mexico, worldwide the second wave of contagion is expected to wreak havoc in countries of the American continent and Europe. In mid-October countries such as France announced 'curfew' to curb the growing infections, and some others such as Germany the closure again of bars, cinemas, among other businesses.

In this regard, the director of the WHO in Europe, Hans Kluge said that the increase in infections is due, in part, to some relaxation of social and public health measures, that is, some of the restrictions have been made lax and people have lowered their guard. This implies that people have stopped wearing masks or use them incorrectly, do not respect the healthy distance, attendance at meetings in public places, among others, has increased.

In Mexico, this behavior is evident in shopping centers and department stores, where those in charge of taking temperature samples do it on the back of the hand or wrist with manual thermometers, there is little or no monitoring of the correct use of the mask and the capacity control is done manually.

Prevention activities that can be carried out in an automated and contactless way, thanks to Dahua Technology's access control and body temperature measurement systems, which unlike the body temperature monitoring cameras that are being used by large corporations and government, were designed to technologically support companies of any size including micro and small ones that represent more than 90% of the country's businesses.

In this sense, the UN health agency commented that just maintaining prevention measures such as the use of a mask and the prohibition of social gatherings could save up to 280,000 lives in the European region.

This means that during this second wave of contagion it is possible to face negligence with intelligence, artificial intelligence embedded in Dahua Technology's access control and assistance devices.

It should be noted that investment issues are not an impediment to using this technology, since the costs are extremely affordable for any business with sale to the public and for companies that want to take care of the health of their employees. The corporations that are scheduled to let this second wave of contagion pass and restart activities in January 2021, the recommendation is to consider the implementation of these access control devices and carry out the necessary tests in order to start the year with a solid strategy of return to normality that protects their employees and helps to reduce the ravages of the pandemic.
