Tec de Monterrey held Cybersecurity HUB

Mexico. Tec de Monterrey, together with strategic partners, successfully held the National Cybersecurity Hub Week, the first event of its kind in Latin America, which is a geographical area that registers a 60% increase in cyberattacks. This meeting was held from 11 to 15 November.

Mexico receives 45 cyberattacks every second, according to Kaspersky, an international company dedicated to computer security. It is for this reason that, together with its strategic allies: Cisco, Deloitte, Citibanamex, among others; have created a technological-educational ecosystem to raise awareness, train and serve entrepreneurs, students, entrepreneurs, employees, technology  experts from the public and private sectors.

The opening event was attended by: Félix Barrio, Director HUB Cybersecurity of Tec de Monterrey based at its Santa Fe Campus; Gilberto Vicente Reyes, Cisco Mexico Cybersecurity Director; Paris Valladares, Managing Director in Mexico at Kaspersky; Santiago Gutiérrez, Lead Cybersecurity Risk Partner at Deloitte Mexico.

"From the HUB we intend to draw attention to why attention should be paid to threats and the necessary action from understanding to the diverse and correct actions to face them. The attacks affect different countries of the world; that tells us that many people are not familiar with the risks and threats that should concern us, first of all, in Mexico," said Félix Barrio, Director of Tec de Monterrey's Cybersecurity HUB.

In line with this statement, recent studies by Deloitte, the industry with the highest growth per year in the world is the cyberattack: 400% per year and the figure is increasing.

"Deliberate information theft is one of the main threats that exist. Users are the most vulnerable because they don't pay attention to cybersecurity. Now we have the internet of things, this has come to have a dynamic, where the attack surface is getting bigger and more complex," said Gilberto Vicente Reyes, Cisco Mexico Cybersecurity Director.

"The controls that protect a company are no longer enough, the thief is smarter and seems to be one step ahead, because he can come by computer or phone. Many of the threats are low-risk and, most importantly, profitable," said Santiago Gutierrez, Lead Cybersecurity Risk Partner at Deloitte Mexico.

Experts in this field agreed to coin the term cyber resilience as a dynamic that manages to respond adequately to real threats and have an action plan to deal with them. Thus, hundreds of data and confidential information for the daily operation of thousands of companies will be protected from prevention and knowledge.

Paris Valladares, General Manager in Mexico at Kaspersky, commented: "Companies do not know how, who, or when they are going to attack them. We need intelligence, that's why the HUB initiative makes all the sense in the world; we have all the solutions to be proactive, what good is it to protect ourselves when we have already been attacked? You have to be prepared for what is coming, with strategy and intelligence; you can't protect it with 3- or 5-year tools, we need other options and another cybersecurity culture."

As part of its activities to promote digital security, in the campuses of Tec de Monterrey: State of Mexico, Santa Fe, Puebla, Guadalajara and Monterrey, through a series of conferences by experts, the issue  was addressed from  the point of view of the common user to how this problem affects large companies and the constant struggle to counteract it.
