Latin America. Genetec announced its partnership with Cylance, a business unit of BlackBerry, Limited, in order to offer AI-based antivirus protection to customers of its devices.
Through this partnership, Genetec will provide additional cybersecurity protection to its Streamvault family of infrastructure solutions, by including CylancePROTECT immediately at no additional cost to its customers. All-in-one devices, storage, and workstations (Genetec Streamvault) are expected to ship pre-installed and optimized with CylancePROTECT in September 2019.
"Genetec is committed to creating secure solutions from the ground up and has practices in place to help identify and mitigate risks for our customers. Cyber security is at the heart of our development process and we see cyber threats evolving faster than ever. With CylancePROTECT, Genetec is delivering the latest in preventive security technology to Streamvault customers and providing them with up-to-date protection, without compromising the guaranteed performance of devices," said Francis Lachance, Director of Video and Devices at Genetec.
CylancePROTECT protects endpoints and organizations by combining the power of artificial intelligence to block malware infections with additional security controls that protect against script-based attacks, fileless memory, and external devices. Unlike traditional endpoint security products that rely on signatures and behavioral analysis to detect threats in the environment, CylancePROTECT uses machine learning, not signatures, to identify and block known and unknown malware from running on endpoints. The software offers prevention against common and unknown threats (zero day) without an Internet connection. It continuously protects an endpoint without interrupting the end user and provides minimal impact on system resources.
"For years, traditional antivirus prevention products relied on signatures as their primary method of threat protection. Assuming that all attacks on a company had been done like this, the use of signatures made sense. However, today, malware mutates daily, even every hour, making signature-based prevention tools obsolete. In mission-critical industries, such as the physical security industry, organizations must think beyond traditional antivirus. We are pleased to partner with Genetec as we share the same passion for protecting our customers against cyber attacks," said Steve Rossi, Global Head of OEM Sales at Cylance.
Because it uses very little computing power, CylancePROTECT will not affect the smooth functioning of Genetec devices, allowing customers to benefit from proactive threat detection without monopolizing crucial resources. In addition, without the need for an Internet connection or signature updates, CylancePROTECT will protect remote endpoints connected to the Genetec system.
