The Chertoff Group developed its methodology approved by the Security Act to enable organizations to assess, mitigate and control physical and cyber security risks
Security Risk Management
According to the Global Terrorism Database, there were 5,367 terrorist attacks directly targeting businesses between 2001 and 2016. The Chertoff Group developed its methodology approved by the Security Act to enable organizations to assess, mitigate, and monitor physical and cybersecurity risks to their individuals, facilities, and technology assets, as well as the business operations they support. The service helps customers evaluate current security measures and, as appropriate, develop a security risk management program to deter, protect, respond, and recover from key threat scenarios, as appropriate. In addition, the company provides a risk monitoring service to evaluate the effectiveness of the controls that are implemented. The methodology is flexible and modular, allowing its application to address the specific risks of an organization's unique operating environment.
"Achieving the Security Act designation is a key milestone in the continued advancement of our firm's advisory and advisory leadership capabilities," said Chad Sweet, co-founder and CEO of The Chertoff Group. "It puts us in a unique position to help our customers reduce security risks while addressing liability protection."
To obtain approval of the Security Act, The Chertoff Group had to argue that its methodology demonstrated substantial utility and effectiveness.
Effective counter-terrorism capabilities
In 2002, the U.S. Congress enacted the Terrorism Support through the Promotion of Effective Technologies (SECURITY) Act to foster the development of effective counterterrorism capabilities by providing important legal liability protections to vendors of potentially life-saving capabilities in a terrorist attack.
The Security Act creates limitations of liability for claims arising out of, related to, or resulting from an act of terrorism when Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies (QATT) technologies have been implemented. The statute has been interpreted as applying to a wide range or combination of technologies, including products (hardware and software), services and programs.
