Why install a video surveillance system?

Latin America. Currently, video surveillance is a recurring theme since there are various reasons to install security systems, as well as prices that vary between solutions. When considering the need for a video surveillance system for business, different factors must be considered. Each of these will help the design, acquisition and service of a solution.

The installation of a video surveillance system goes beyond the simple monitoring of a business, there are other reasons that will determine the final decision on what to install. Against this background, Axis Communications provides the main reasons to consider for small and medium-sized businesses  before starting their selection process for a video surveillance system:

Vandalism prevention: Depending on the location of the businesses, vandalism can be a big problem. Most of these cases take place in public areas such as bus stops, subways, tunnels, platforms, or similar. Serious consideration should be given to the installation of a video surveillance solution for small businesses that suffer from recurring problems with damage to their properties, graffiti, glass breakage or possible break-ins; this will work as a deterrent to possible criminal events.

Cost savings: Companies that make small or large investments are always looking for ways to cut costs. For some, identifying the reduction of internal theft is only one part of doing business. Depending on the frequency of this type of behavior, the decision about acquiring a video surveillance solution can be very fast. For example, if a business has a documented loss of US$270 per month of its inventory in trucks and warehouses, the installation of a video surveillance system for SMEs that can cost US$1,100 will reduce this problem by up to 50% in the future.

Increase in productivity: The idea of being seen also tends to keep staff working. Security cameras in businesses can also be used to resolve disputes, reduce violence and conflicts between employees. The installation of a properly designed video surveillance system can improve productivity in business.

Theft Reduction: For businesses that have experienced theft, a properly installed video surveillance system can provide necessary video footage for authorities and support with future investigations. By using high-resolution recorded images, this quality material will be used to distinguish the facial features, clothing and particular features of offenders. Most properly installed systems, along with proper signage, will act as a deterrent. The fear of suffering some type of theft is generally a huge concern for small and medium-sized companies since in most cases they have cash inside their establishments.

Remote monitoring: Allowing a business manager or owner to have the ability to remotely view one or more stores will give you a higher level of comfort. The rapid responsiveness comes into play when the security system detects an alarm and the administrator can visually verify its nature through the video surveillance system. Once the reasons for installing a security system are prioritized, it will be much easier to determine the type of solution and the requirements needed to accommodate your installation.
