Cyber attacks in the financial sector causing losses of US$ 100 million

Colombia. FireEye, Inc.  will develop the 2017 edition of Cyber Defense Live Bogotá, an event that brings together for a day computer security professionals from the government and industrial sectors. The company will comment on the figures of its latest M-Trends report, which reports that in 2016 computer attacks focused their attention on the financial sector, causing losses of more than $ 100 million dollars.

In the same way, attendees will be able to know in detail, as each time it has been reducing by 47.5% the days in which companies take to have knowledge of the violation of their information. In 2015 it was 146 against 99 days observed in 2016, which is still not considered ideal.

They will also be able to know the details of the sectors that today are most affected by cyberattacks, which is led by the financial sector with 19%, followed by retail and hospitals with 13%, high technology with 10%, business services, health and government with  9%.

According to FireEye's research, today's cyber attackers are more sophisticated than ever, which is why to detect, prevent, analyze and respond to attacks, it is necessary to understand the motivations, intentions, characteristics and methods of cybercriminals. By studying nearly 16,000 threat actors, including more than 30 groups sponsored by different governments, FireEye can provide a robust platform based on technology, intelligence, knowledge and expertise.

Robert Freeman, FireEye's Vice President for Latin America, commented: "Attendees at the event will learn about and share our vision of the current threat landscape and their impact on global organizations of different types. They will also learn about the solutions that will allow IT security managers to optimize their IT resources, combine the different technologies that coexist with each other, and improve their costs, among other advantages that combine the solutions, services and intelligence we offer."

The 2017 edition of Cyber Defense Live Bogotá, will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at the Marriott Bogotá Hotel, and is part of the cybersecurity summit events that FireEye organizes globally. In this event, attendees will receive an update on the evolution of cyber threats in the country and best practices to combat cybercriminals.

Cyber Defense Live Bogotá shares the vision of nationally and internationally recognized industry experts in cybersecurity, and is an effort to facilitate a dialogue with security leaders on the emerging threats, attack trends, and innovative approaches needed to turn the tide against adversaries of all types.

FireEye's vision, according to Robert Freeman, is that there must be a joint work between the government and private sectors, who together with security providers can better understand the evolution of attacks, the motives and intentions of cyber attackers, while knowing the approaches that are needed to combat new threats. "That is why it is very stimulating for us to host Cyber Defense Live again in the city of Bogotá as a replica of similar summits that we organize in different parts of the world. That is why we will have high-level security professionals, with whom we will share experiences and knowledge."
