The Metropolitan Police of Bucaramanga with the support of the Government of Santander, installed in recent months more than 16 IP video surveillance cameras in the municipalities of Floridablanca, Piedecuesta, Girón and Bucaramanga.
The solution, which complements a video surveillance system made up of 150 cameras, has allowed to increase in the last month the feeling of security among the inhabitants and make effective the captures for crime in these municipalities.
The new Axis cameras installed to reinforce security in the neighborhoods and municipalities of the department, which lacked sufficient technological equipment to cover the needs arising from the commission of crimes that affect the population, were acquired by the Government of Santander through the advice and experience of Focus Ingeniería Ltda., who accompanied and executed the project since July of this year.
"The presence of video surveillance cameras is important. However, the efficiency of these is not only attributed to the amount installed but also to the good use that is given to them and the monitoring that is carried out. Today, Bucaramanga, and the entire department are a national reference for how a security system can help mitigate public order problems in a certain population," says Diana Ardila, Key Account Manager South America - North Cone of Axis Communicatios.
The project developed a research stage that allowed to identify the points where it was necessary to effectively strengthen security and its specific needs. The conditions of the places and exposure that the equipment would have were taken into account, since it was required not only that they provide a quality image, but that they were highly resistant against inclement weather and even vandalism. Hence, the chosen ones were axis Q6044-E network cameras.
Equipped with 720p HDTV resolution and 30x optical zoom, this state-of-the-art PTZ dome camera provides images with outstanding quality while being prepared for hostile scenarios, thanks to its aggression-proof technology and even protection against surges, dust, rain or snow. It also has an electronic image stabilization function that provides clear and stable videos in windy or foggy situations.
With the possibility of being automatically adjusted in up to 256 predefined positions and enlarging images with a high level of detail, these 16 new cameras arrived to provide the population of Santander with an integrated system of protection and prevention, in a joint work between the National Police, the Communal Action Boards and the other Security Fronts, managing to effectively combat the criminality of the department.
With this project, the Government of Santander aims to protect citizens against crimes and contraventions that affect dignity and personal safety, and also seeks to achieve a citizen culture based on respect for the law.
