Latin America. It is important that companies have efficient systems to protect the data of their employees and customers, even more so when the legislation of the countries where they operate requires it. In this way, they will avoid economic sanctions that in the case of small companies could mean even bankruptcy.
In this context, the company Sophos shared with SECURITY SALES a series of tips for more and more companies to work on the protection of personal data:
1. Establish the importance of data protection. Make sure that employees know what is expected of them when it comes to protecting company data and that they understand that customers depend on them when it comes to data protection, just as they themselves depend on the human resources department for the protection of their own data.
2. Segment information. Not giving employees access to information that is not necessary to do their day-to-day work. Under the new regulation, even reading sensitive information is considered as data leakage.
3. Any Information may be confidential. If you are not sure of your privacy, it is necessary to use it with the same seriousness as if it were confidential information. It is advisable not to collect unnecessary data. Thieves steal what they find.
4. Clarity and honesty as an advantage. Clearly and honestly pointing out what information will be used, how it will be used, and how long it will be kept can become an advantage. Customers and employees trust brands for being clear and honest.
5. Use strong and unique passwords. Make sure passwords are never shared and that they are strong and unique. In this way, not only is the theft of information difficult, but also the abuse of privileges that can infringe on privacy is avoided.
6. Encrypt the data. It is advisable to encrypt the data to protect the information from thieves and prying eyes.
