International. Boon Edam Inc. announced that its revenue solutions are now available to architects, designers and contractors in the form of BIM (Building Information Modeling) files in the Autodesk Seek web service library.
Boon Edam Inc. BIM files have also been updated and optimized for use with Autodesk Revit software in North, Central and South America.
BIM is an intelligent process based on a model that helps make design, engineering, project and operational information more accurate, accessible and usable for buildings and infrastructure projects. Project teams can create and share a model that has a rich data set and use the same consistent data to improve the process of understanding and decision-making, from conceptual design to construction documentation to operation and maintenance.
BIM also helps to obtain calculations of other factors, such as implementation costs, time and labor requirements, raw material supply, as well as other fundamental prerequisites of the construction industry. Through BIM, the entire life cycle of the construction can be simulated, from planning to demolition.
According to a report published in December 2015 by Transparency Market Research ("BIM": Global Industry Analysis, Size, Market Share, Growth, Trends, and Projections, 2015-2022), the global BIM market amounted to $2.76 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach $11.54 billion in 2022.
This represents a compound annual growth rate of 19.1% through 2022. According to another finding of the report, North America was the top market for BIM in 2014. To view the full report, click here.
Characteristics of BIM files
Designers using Boon Edam BIM files simply select a product and download the file with the extension ".rfa" (Revit Family File) to their own network folder. The user can then choose a revolving door of a certain size, drag and drop it on a wall of the construction model. Optical turnstiles can be dragged to a certain location on the ground. All products can be displayed in flat or 3-D view and offer detailed information about the company, product and specifications.
Optical turnstiles can be challenging due to the different types of cabinets that are needed to properly design a given assembly. Boon Edam BIM files solve this problem by providing a simple default turnstile array, which can then be easily modified by changing the number of standard amplitude lanes and wider lanes. A handy library of available finishes or colours, as well as glass or barrier options makes bespoke design possible with a few clicks.
Boon Edam Inc. will offer a technical support service dedicated exclusively to solving questions about how to access and manipulate BIM models. Customers who wish to make use of this special service can contact [email protected]
