ONVIF, the world's leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, has announced the release candidate version of Profile A, a draft specification that establishes an interface for access control clients and expands configuration options for ONVIF-compliant access control systems.
Profile A covers the common and routine tasks of access control functions for users such as security agents, receptionists, or HR professionals who grant and revoke employee credentials, create and update schedules, and make changes to access control privileges within the system. Available for review on the ONVIF website, Profile A allows the configuration of these functions at the access control client level.
"Profile A is the next step in ONVIF's commitment to enable interoperability in the access control market by increasing the functions of system operability and management at the customer level," says Suresh Raman of Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited and chair of the ONVIF Profile A Working Group. "This new access control configuration profile complements ONVIF's existing Profile C to encompass much more than basic event management and door access control and enables greater integration between IP video management and access control systems when combined with ONVIF's Profile C and Profile S."
ONVIF first circulates a new profile as a candidate version for launch for six months, allowing members and stakeholders to do a final implementation review. Upon completion of that process, the final profile is published and technology vendors can then test their products for compatibility with the final version of Profile A. This process aims to enable members to more quickly introduce compatible products when the final version of Profile A is released in early 2016.
Founded in 2008, ONVIF now has more than 500 member companies on six continents and more than 5,000 Profiles-compatible products. With the candidate version for Profile A, the Profile S for video streaming, Profile G for recording and storage, Profile C for physical access control, and the release candidate version of profile Q for easy installation and advanced security features, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions that SUPPORTED ONVIF products can provide.
