Colombia. Government announces the installation of more than 500 cameras in Cali in the framework of an offensive against insecurity, cell phone theft, extortion and microtrafficking, the National Government announced the delivery of more than 500 security cameras for Cali.
This makes the capital of Valle del Cauca the city with the highest coverage of cameras, as explained by the Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo, who said that the investment for the devices will be $ 21,560 million (US $ 8.8 million), of which the Government will contribute $ 16,170 million (US $ 6.6 million) and the Mayor's Office of Cali $ 5,390 million (US $ 2.1 million).
"The important thing is to provide security and tranquility to the people of Valle del Cauca," said the minister in statements collected by the newspaper El País, specifying that in this way the number of cameras in the city will rise to 741 for the first quarter of 2015.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Cali, Rodrigo Guerrero, although he celebrated the announcement, asked Christ to speed up the process for the delivery of the cameras, considering that on other occasions the process has taken up to two years.
"This new endowment is very important to help dismantle the gangs that harass the people of Cali. With video surveillance cameras, important results have been achieved and their effectiveness has been demonstrated," Guerrero said.
The new cameras will be installed in communes such as 13, 14, 16, 32, 20 and 21, and will have monitoring centers in the four districts of the capital of the Valley.
