International. The arrival of the summer holidays generates inevitable traffic jams in the main avenues, which is why Milestone Systems, with its XProtect software, is part of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), which seek to help governments reduce congestion, improve safety and make journeys more efficient.
The ITS, made up of network cameras and Milestone Systems' VMS (Video Management Software), helps analyze city traffic and make necessary arrangements such as synchronizing signals when accidents push vehicles onto alternate routes and adjusting signage and lane markings without incurring high costs.
Notably, video recorded by cameras and managed by Milestone helps police determine the nature of accidents, while traffic engineers can use that information to improve safety and reduce accidents in the future.
In the city of Dubuque, Iowa, a locality-wide Intelligent Transportation System was built to improve road safety.
This system connects traffic signals, intersection cameras and other IP-addressable technologies to an Ethernet network over the fiber optic network, providing traffic engineers with dynamic, centralized control over traffic flow throughout the city.
In this system, Axis cameras, supplied by the company's system integrator and partner, RACOM Corporation, have been deployed at 80 intersections along major roads and bridges in the city of Dubuque; and the video images sent by the cameras, are managed through Milestone's XProtect to help monitor the roads and make decisions that help improve the city's traffic.
