Peru. Lima is the capital of Peru and its largest city. It is the economic, political and cultural center of the country. In January, the lima city government decided to start a video surveillance project called Ciudad Segura.
The software chosen was Axxon Next, an open platform for intelligent video surveillance from AxxonSoft. The project is designed to reduce the city's crime rate and aid in police investigations.
The Puerto Libre district, the largest in Lima, was chosen to start the project. Currently, the strategic points of the district are covered by 42 IP surveillance cameras, in order to maintain public safety, the installation of many more is planned.
The information from all the cameras is sent to the central monitoring distributor, where the entire system is managed. Completion of the project is scheduled for June 2013.
According to Rafael Santos, mayor of Lima, the Safe City of Pueblo Libre project has already generated a 40% reduction in crime, and more improvements are expected to come. Most importantly, all the city's security services work in a unified way.
