Argentina. The Municipality of Cutral Có will install 25 new security cameras in different parts of the city and thus reach the 34 urban control points that seek to reinforce security, both in the downtown area of the city and in the West zone and surrounding neighborhoods.
Enrique Torrico, director of information and communication technologies of the Municipality, presented the project and explained in detail the functions that the new devices will have in the city. "The main objective is to cover particular points such as banks and municipal buildings and, on the other hand, to collaborate with the security forces. First, anomalies are detected in public spaces and, once captured, they are immediately notified to reinforce operations and search for objectives," he said.
He also explained that there is currently a system of nine dome-type cameras in buildings of municipal dependencies, so he assured that with the new devices the city will have a total of 34 cameras. Thus, there will be five in the West, eight in the East, five more in the South and as many in the North.
For his part, Mayor Ramón Rioseco explained that the cameras will be purchased in two stages and that the investment is around one million pesos. "It's an economic effort, but it's very significant because it allows us to intervene very quickly in the problems that people have. It's an effort but it makes you live in a modern city," he said. He pointed out that the new cameras will be installed in the most critical areas of criminal activity and near schools. In addition, he referred to the success of the first provision of cameras that meant a reduction of criminal acts by 70%, showing optimism in the face of the new investment.
During the presentation, some of the images captured with the security camera system were displayed. Among them, scenes such as attempted robberies, alcohol consumption on public roads and traffic accidents could be observed, of which the Police quickly took part after being alerted by the tapes. Torrico explained that the cameras delivered information on 6 traffic accidents, 3 criminal acts and 57 contraventions.
