Mexico. Local authorities began the special security program "Centinela" with the installation of 120 video cameras in the historic center of the city of Puebla.
The municipal president, Eduardo Rivera explained that in the first stage of the project, a total of 300 video surveillance cameras will be placed in different parts of the capital, 120 of them in the streets of the center.
Governor Rafael Moreno Valle stressed that security is essential to project a positive image during the Tourism Tianguis, which is about to be held in this entity.
Both officials said that the capital center is the main tourist attraction and therefore security must be increased.
The video surveillance program "Centinela" had an investment of 120 million pesos (US$9.5 million).
The first cameras were enabled at the intersection of 16 de septiembre Avenue and 5 Oriente, a few meters from the State Congress and the Metropolitan Cathedral.
