Bolivia. The streets and avenues of Santa Cruz de la Sierra will be monitored by security cameras 24 hours a day, as part of a crime prevention program.
The Electronic Monitoring and Surveillance System was inaugurated by Vice President Álvaro García Linera and Government Minister Carlos Romero in the Estación Argentina neighborhood.
Regarding the first delivery, the authorities of the Vice Ministry and the Departmental Police reported that in a first phase, 40 'dome' cameras will be located in strategic sites of Santa Cruz.
The 130 cameras to be installed will transmit the information to the monitoring center 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in real time, so that the Bolivian Police can react more effectively to social requirements and needs.
The system also has a monitoring center with state-of-the-art technology that will be operated by police personnel, specially trained for it. It will be located provisionally in the Estación Argentina neighborhood, between the third and fourth rings, while the municipality of Santa Cruz builds the smart building for this center.
The system also allows the images of the cameras to be recorded for a month in order to serve for the eventual investigation of criminal acts, and where appropriate as evidence capable of becoming evidence.
