ONVIF exceeds 2,000 compliant products

altInternational. ONVIF, the world's leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, announced that more than 2,000 products are certified as compliant with the ONVIF interoperability specification. This milestone of security industry adoption demonstrates the critical role that such interoperability specifications play in the process of selecting, installing, and integrating security IP technology as part of a global system.

The milestone of 2,000 products for ONVIF also represents a doubling of compliant products over the past 12 months, with an overall ONVIF membership extending to more than 400 individual companies. The membership list represents a cross-section of manufacturers and other security technology companies from many corners of the world and of different sizes and scopes.

"Reaching this milestone of more than 2,000 compliant products, more than half of them in the past year, is an important marker in the movement to adopt interoperability standards on an industry-wide basis," said Jonas Andersson, Chairman of the Steering Committee, ONVIF, who further indicated that "By continuing to invest in testing tools to simplify ONVIF compliance, we can maintain this healthy momentum as our organization continues to grow."

To help end users, system integrators and consultants learn more about ONVIF, including the recent launch of Profile S, which addresses common functionalities between devices in an IP video surveillance system, ONVIF has launched an online training seminar. The webinar course, which can be accessed for free, is designed to provide an overview of today's security industry standards landscape, additional details about ONVIF's mission and objectives, and the core specification and compliance process.

"The sheer number of network products available on the market today presents our industry with a real paradox," said Paul Tennent, Director of Tavcom Training, who developed the webinar. "The sheer number of options on offer now have never been more exciting, but without effective global standards to ensure smooth and easy interoperability, that same benefit can quickly become a nightmare."

To further simplify the application of ONVIF, Profile S has been added in the ONVIF compliance process and a test tool has been provided to the compliance process. Profile S describes the common functionalities shared by video management systems with ONVIF and devices such as IP cameras or encoders that send, configure, request or control the transmission of multimedia data over an IP network. The test tool, as well as the guidelines on Profile S and the ONVIF Profile Policy, are available in the Documents section of the ONVIF website.

More information about ONVIF compliant products, including the guidelines on Profile S and the ONVIF Profile Policy, is available in the Documents section of the ONVIF website: www.onvif.org
