The FBI is working on a project designed to identify people of interest, this is how it will launch a government program called Next Generation Identification (NGI), in Spanish it translates as next-generation identification, this project will create a database with iris scanners and facial recognition.
This is how it will be added to the fingerprint database. According to the publication New Scientist, the FBI aims to use this technology (NGI) to create a database with the faces of fugitive criminals and then search for them in security camera recordings and find them.
There is already a pilot plan of the project that seeks to put security cameras for surveillance on the streets, this plan was launched in February of this year.
The FBI mentions that the system does not violate laws that protect the privacy of citizens, also that the database used in the tests only contains images of known criminals. The aforementioned project requires an investment of about US $ 1,000 million.
