Mexico. The City Council of Guadalajara wants to expand the video surveillance system of its Secretariat of Citizen Security with the interconnection to almost two thousand private cameras installed in the city and that record the public space, which would allow it to considerably increase its capacity.
The Commission of Citizen Security and Social Prevention of Guadalajara, together with the Video Surveillance Committee, presented a first advance of the census of video cameras in the hands of individuals operating in the city, which allows us to know of the existence of one thousand 964 of these technological equipment, considering only 22 commercial areas, the Mercado de Abastos and 17 shopping centers.
The president of the Security Commission, Karlos Ramsses Machado Magaña, announced that they will resort to the powers granted to them by the Video Surveillance Regulation approved in 2011, to manage and establish agreements with the owners of these video cameras, so that the municipal authority takes advantage of them by monitoring them from the Center for Communications and Electronic Observation (Cecoe).
