Colombia. The Latin American region increasingly aims to implement surveillance and control systems, this is happening to a greater extent in countries such as Colombia, where they are becoming almost obligatory elements in the security plans of the different cities.
The two most recent cases occurred in the cities of Cali and Barrancabermeja, where it is planned to implement security systems in order to control illicit activities and increase security levels in Cudadana.
The Minister of the Interior, Federico Renjifo Vélez, and the mayor of Cali, Rodrigo Guerrero, agreed to the implementation of a pilot security plan in the capital of Valle del Cauca that includes the installation of 100 surveillance cameras, the formation of 131 quadrants of the National Police, and the realization of training days.
Meanwhile, in Barrancabermeja, 96 video cameras will be installed and put into operation, which will aim to comprehensively reduce the crimes committed in the city.
According to a report delivered by the local police, in the city have been reported in 2012, 179 complaints for theft (there are hundreds of unreported thefts), which for the Ministry of Government, occur due to the lack of uniformed personnel who control all spaces of the city.
"We have three contracts: one to put into operation the 22 existing cameras in Barrancabermeja, another to install 50 new cameras with the National Police Fund, and the Mayor got 24 additional cameras, in an agreement with private telephone companies," said the Secretary of Government, Juan de Dios Castilla Amell.
Undoubtedly, then, electronic records will be of great help to prosecute criminals, ensure the exits and entrances of the urban area, as well as to immediately address the crimes that occur in the most neuralgic places of these Colombian cities.
