Chile. In order to preserve the safety of its passengers and reduce the number of criminal incidents, the santiago Metro authorities installed a new security system that provides coverage to 48 stations through 415 fixed cameras and 406 with sweep, tilt and approach control (PTZ) throughout the metro network.
All cameras that were already available could be integrated into the system by connecting to the network with the 9000 series of video encoders. Those in charge of the renewal of the supervision system were the company IndigoVision and its partner Diebold Bitelco.
The main means of public transport in Santiago is the metro, more than two million people are mobilized daily in this subway network of the Chilean capital, such citizen relevance was what led those responsible for the transport system to improve their safety.
The coordinator of technical projects attached to the subway system, Felipe Bravo Busta, highlights that "this solution has made it possible for us to have a safer metro in every way, that is, due to the low crime and the lower risk of accidents occurring due to a congestion of the service".
The key to the operation of the monitoring system lies in the decision to implement a distributed and adaptable IP video solution. On the other hand, images from the cameras are recorded in 43 network video recorders (NVRs); it also includes an alarm signal referral system ensuring the identification of incidents.
