Tyco International announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Visonic Ltd., a global developer and manufacturer of electronic security systems and components, for the sum of about US$100 million. The acquisition will strengthen the technology and wireless portfolio, as well as Tyco's presence in the intrusion market.
Visonic recently introduced a wireless communication technology known as PowerG to increase communication and encryption ranges to 128-bit to ensure communication between wireless sensors/detectors and panels. This technology is used in more than one million installations around the world and is a business that moves annual profits of more than US $ 75 million.
"The acquisition of Visonic strengthens the technology capabilities of our intrusion security portfolio and will allow us to enhance the solutions we offer to residential and commercial customers. Visonic is a leader in the wireless security industry and its strong presence in the European market complements Tyco's strengths in the North American market," said Mark VanDover, President of Tyco Security Products.
The transaction is expected to close at the end of this year and is subject to closing conditions.
