. According to the consultancy IMS Research, which conducted a study on the end user in video surveillance and security in the retail market, more and more so-called loss prevention managers are looking for creative and adapted solutions for the main day-to-day risks.
The retail systems integration market in 2010 reported figures of around $5.5 billion worldwide, so system integrators who can provide more creative security solutions will have a great opportunity to take a larger slice of this market.
According to the report's author, Ewan Lamont, "When we ask end users what they're looking for in a systems integrator, most say they're looking for companies that take the time to understand their businesses, consult them about their needs, and provide specific solutions to their problems: make them feel valued. Their biggest concern has to do with companies pushing for the sale of equipment but not looking any further."
Lamont adds that "retailers are looking for the integrator to take care of security. They want a total solution, not just a camera. Many retailers believe that integrators are failing to find their specific needs and by default their needs for security solutions, which reduces the effectiveness and success of a system."
