05/10/2010. Mexico City has stopped receiving 28 million tourists, because of the fear that the world has due to the image of insecurity that the country reflects, acknowledged the Secretary of Tourism of the Federal District, Alejandro Rojas Díaz Durán.
The official admitted that there are areas with high rates of violence, "but fortunately they are not tourist"; however, he said, his image impacts other states that are safe, because visitors avoid traveling to Mexico because of what they hear from the country, without making any difference.
Therefore, he said, it is urgent to change the image of the country, "take away the fear and make it perceived that the Federal District and other states of the country are safe."
As for the measures to recover the sector, Alejandro Rojas announced that he will promote before the Congress of the Union and before the Federal Ministry of Tourism, the creation of a National Tourist Security System, which includes protection and insurance to the traveler in cases of theft, loss of documents and / or accidents, so that it begins to operate no later than 2011.
With this insurance, which has been taken from the success of the model implemented by the capital government, and which has been extended to the state of Chihuahua and will soon be adopted by Sinaloa, it aims to give certainty to the tourist that not only will he find a safe city, but that from the moment he steps on Mexican soil, he is backed by insurance that covers any inconvenience he may face, In a press conference, Alejandro Rojas also raised the need to expand the number of runways and takeoff at the International Airport of Mexico City, in order to increase Mexico's connectivity to the world by up to 47 percent and generate greater visits to the country's capital.
He also proposed the need to concession the grouping of Green Angels, to provide a better service to walkers, tourists and visitors.
Finally, he proposed that to encourage family trips to the interior of the country, that these be tax deductible. With this, he said, consumption will increase and Mexican families will know the country's destinations.
