Panama. The Panamanian government approved the project to incorporate biometrics in the identification of immigrants, in order to verify that they are not irregular, in addition to verifying if they have outstanding debts with the Panamanian justice, according to the deputy director of Migration of Panama, Tayra Barsallo. The biometric technology to be installed in the country will cost five million dollars, and will displace old random-check methods. These electronic support measures are part of the comprehensive security mechanisms adopted to combat organized crime, cross-border crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
