The famous spies of the CIA or the well-known James Bond would have today a mission perhaps a little less glamorous than those they usually face in the movies, but that in today's world are a great concern: cyber espionage. The latest case is the accusation that Belgium made to the Chinese government of protecting cyber attacks against the computer systems of the government of the European country, according to statements by Jo Vandeurze, Minister of Justice.
To this is added the complaint made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karen De Gucht, who claimed that his ministry had been the victim of cyberespionage by Chinese agents.
But the Belgians are not the only victims of this modality, in September 2007, the Chinese army was accused of attacking the Pentagon's computer system, on the other hand India claims that China is installing bots to control zombie computers in its country. This would corroborate what was stated in the study conducted by McAfee in which it states that governments are using the Internet to carry out cyberespionage practices and cyberattacks.
Faced with this latent reality, governments and industries must take preventive measures to guarantee the integrity of their systems, because although new technologies can entail great dangers, in them we can also find the tools to avoid it and protect companies.
