Perimeter security is a set of electronic detection systems designed to protect internal and external perimeters, which stop and alert to the possibility of interference in the property; within these solutions are anti-intrusion systems, glass break detectors, outdoor motion detectors, magnetic aperture, infrared barriers and CCTV. To protect the perimeter, specific points such as the border line must be controlled, in addition to the entrances and exits of the installation, however before placing the perimeter detection system it is necessary to analyze the degree of security that the client needs and proceed to the installation. If it is the case that greater security is needed, then two lines of defense of each level would be placed.
It should be noted that in perimeter security a difference is made between the means that are used because there are physical and technical. The first are also known as passive and are the fences, bars, fences, concertinas and the technicians or assets are the other electronic elements.
As for the viability and security provided by these systems we can say that it is high, additionally the life time of these peripherals depends a lot on the manufacturers, so the quality also varies, the design, but on average a perimeter detection equipment must last approximately ten years, although most live much longer. Another important factor of this type of security is that the perimeter devices generate very low energy consumption, because they do not use a single watt of power, although there are some that consume more than others.
The form of communication of these systems is done through the sending of alarm signals to the panel in two ways: by dry contact (relays) or by network (network). When talking about dry contact we refer to a switch signal, which can be open or closed, this type of system is generally used for small perimeters, since these do not support large distances.
In the case of network, the sensors communicate with the panel or the monitoring center by means of two protocols, the RS-422 or the RS-485. This type of communication is the most used when there are many teams, especially in large perimeters.
In Latin America this type of security is implemented on a large scale, however there are not many manufacturers of this equipment in the region. The main perimeter security manufacturers are located in Israel, the United States and some countries in Europe, mainly Germany, France and Italy.
