Two species, one solution

For more than 50 years, CCTV has been recognized as the main benchmark for security, since it allows not only the monitoring of different areas, but has also helped the capture of criminals and terrorists around the world. With the advancement of IP technology many users began to migrate to CCTV systems that used this technology, which since 2006 began to be applied in  several security solutions in Latin America.  Many integrators and users have tried to switch to IP CCTV, however, due to the geographical and economic conditions of the region, it has not been entirely possible.

The first CCTVs that were known were made up of analog cameras that used coaxial cables to connect to video recorders. The images were monitored in real time through a series of monitors and the recording on magnetic tapes became obsolete which prompted the development of a new application that would meet the needs that were being presented.

Hence dvrs and NVRs were born, which allowed unlimited recording in digital media. Similarly the emergence of IP cameras revolutionized the transmission, capture and recording system, and became the perfect alternative to analog systems.

However, due to the conflicts that arise with these cameras, integrators began to create hybrid systems that combined the benefits of both systems (analog and IP) and adapted to the needs of Latin American customers.

We can not say if an analog CCTV has more or less advantages than an IP; but what we can say is that the union of both offers interesting benefits for users such as DVR recording and IP transmission or NVR recording; which in turn translates into terms of costs and profits for companies that want to implement the new technology, but have old CCTV systems.

A hybrid solution is a good strategy to take advantage of new technologies by joining the analog system, as these systems accept low-cost analog cameras and at the same time sophisticated IP cameras that have megapixel resolution, or even intelligent DSPs to perform facial recognition.

Currently in Latin America having 100% digital solutions is very expensive due to the high prices of connectivity; In addition, there are thousands of analog cameras already installed that customers cannot rule out to move to new technologies, which is why hybrid systems are offered.

In the same way, Latin American users have been learning about security systems and have understood that the important thing is not to implement the newest, but to look for solutions that allow them to meet their needs.
