Latin America. The actions of cyber criminals are getting stronger. According to the latest report on Internet security from the computer security company Symantec, Latin America is one of the regions where cyberattacks are received most sent mainly by the United States with 55%, followed by China with 14% and the United Kingdom with 8%.This research also determined that between the first of January and June 30, 2007, the highest percentage of infected computers in Latin America was obtained by Brazil with 39%, the second Argentina with 17% and the third Chile with 10%.
In the same way, the result revealed that most virtual attacks target victims by exploiting, in the first place, vulnerabilities in trusted environments such as, for example, well-known financial sites, social networks and job search. Similarly, as for spam , only 3% of it is produced in Latin America, of which 40% comes from Brazil, 15% from Chile and 12% from Argentina.
In the very near future and according to Douglas Wallace, director of Systems Engineering for Latin America and the Caribbean at Symantec, the new targets for attacks will be virtual worlds, those whose main focus is the development of online gaming communities.
