Mexico. Cancun International Airport, the second largest in the country and the one that receives the most international traffic, carried out a reform in its facilities and built the third air terminal, which it put into operation in mid-2007.The new terminal has an area greater than 42 thousand square meters, within which is a platform with 11 aisles, 84 check-in counters, 14 boarding gates and six customs filters and six security filters, 42 migratory filters and a fire system with sprinklers and smoke detectors. Additionally, they can document 4,200 passengers per hour, reducing the waiting time.
One of the main features of this new place is its security system, which complies with the new construction standards in terms of security, in addition to modern surveillance and protection equipment for the review of checked baggage by computed tomography.
Also, and continuing the line of security, a Bosch CCTV was installed that includes 230 Dinion and AutoDomo cameras in two Allegiant LTC 8800 matrix switchers , all recorded in 13 Dibos8. This system is integrated into a satellite configuration with a fiber optic link of more than 15 km to three Allegiant LTC 8800 matrix from Terminal I & II and allows any operator to monitor and control any of the 500 cameras installed at the airport.
The new terminal, which had an investment of 100 million dollars, is the most important made by the Southwest Airport group ASUR, has made Cancun International Airport the most modern in Mexico, due to the implementation of state-of-the-art technology focused on service and the use of a complete security system that it follows the rules of civil aeronautics and protects not only the place but the passengers and the entire country.
Actions like this are taken as a prevention to what happened on September 11, 2001, the day that changed the perception of protection, however in some airports security is minimal, as verified by a group of researchers belonging to the United States Congress which denounced damage to the defense systems of 19 US airports.
