With an average of 5,000 people circulating daily in its facilities, the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, in Mexico, saw the need to strengthen its video surveillance system.
BY SECURITY SALES
The Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya is attended by personalities from all over the world. Couples come to celebrate their love or entire families to vacation. This hotel of 37 hectares of property, usually has an occupancy of 3800 guests at 100%. To that is added the number of events that take place in its facilities, ranging from concerts to private celebrations, facts that make it a very busy place.
And with a large volume of people circulating through its facilities, its security system did not seem to have the capacity to control certain areas of the property, because they only had a team of 16 cameras, of which only 12 worked correctly. So this paradise, located in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, on the Riviera Maya, could see its ability to react to any incident captured by this precarious security system collapse.
And it is that a day at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya has so much movement of people, that ensuring a successful monitoring of all its areas was becoming a matter of great proportions.
For this reason, three years ago, this 1264-room hotel decided to make an investment in security so that its guests, in addition to feeling comfortable in this space, were safe especially those who arrive with equipment or goods of high value, or with rigorous protection schemes.
In the analysis of the property, Julio Herrera López, security manager of the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya analyzed with his team the conditions of that time and received several proposals, including that of Hikvision that was the winner because the proposed system adjusted to the conditions that were required for this project. Another factor that favored the Chinese company, a leader in video surveillance and security solutions, to stay with this project was constituted in the guarantees they gave of their service.
Installation
The installation process of the new security system was carried out in parts. In a first stage, 89 cameras were installed. Subsequently, 30 more were installed and currently this Mexican hotel has 324 IP cameras of the Exir series, two NVR DS 9664, two NVR DS 96256 and a four-channel videowall.
With this equipment, common areas, revenues, sectors with high flow of personnel and those destined for events outside the hotel were covered. With the help of the cameras, it has been possible to protect the 349 invaluable objects that are part of the "Memorabiblia", made up, among other things, of a guitar and a sack by Elvis Presley, drums by Aerosmith and Matchbox Twenty, guitars by The Police and Bon Jovi, who offered the inaugural concert of this place, as well as articles from Black Sabbath or The Rolling Stones.
The cameras have also helped to solve problems of loss of guest items, who have been satisfied with the efficiency in solving problems.
"The challenge was to implement a CCTV system with the most advanced technology. A 10 km fiber optic backbone was implemented to have a more optimal video fidelity, which makes it the first system with this number of IP cameras implemented 100% by Hikvision," says Gilberto Rocha, operational manager of Opcom, the integrator in charge of the project.
A solution that guests appreciate
"Thanks to this video surveillance system we can be attentive to any situation that is registered in the hotel facilities such as attending first aid in time, but also monitoring children and collaborators. In the same way, we can react to quarrels or arguments in our facilities. This project has had such an impact on improving safety, that we have even been able to record evidence of situations or accidents that have helped us to demarcate the hotel from responsibilities that do not correspond to it, "says Julio Herrera López, security manager of the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
With this camera scheme, the security team of this place, made up of 106 people, can monitor 2300 hotel employees, 3800 guests on a regular day and if necessary, an average of 4500 people when events are recorded, such as a concert.
According to Herrera López, the Hotel has had the accompaniment of Hikvision since the installation of the equipment. They have even received the visit of engineers of the company, who on two occasions have traveled to Mexico to supervise the operation of the security system. In the same way, they have received the advice required by the integrator in various situations.
The satisfaction with the service has been so gratifying that Hikvision is the brand chosen for the installation of the security system for the Wood Ward Camp that opens soon and the Hotel Único, an establishment that is currently under construction and is located less than 15 kilometers from Tulum, on the beach of Kantenah (Riviera Maya). There, for now, based on the video surveillance and monitoring model of the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, the assembly of 164 cameras will be made.
