Are we ready for the cloud?

Dear friends, it is a pleasure to greet you again.

Starting from the question with which I lead this editorial, I ask another question, are we prepared in Latinomaérica for electronic security to converge totally with IT?

I know that the issue of cloud, computer security are not our "forte", but I think we need to start thinking about them more seriously and more often than we have done.

The cloud has become the new paradigm of companies, accessing information from anywhere and saving on infrastructure and maintenance, has led to a progressive migration of many companies, despite the fact that the region is not prepared to mount on Cloud Computing.

A few days ago I was at BarCamp, itinerant conferences focused on building knowledge around technology, and I attended one about the cloud and its benefits, but also about its security. When I asked the speakers about the preparation for this, they both agreed with me: Latin America does not have the necessary infrastructure to provide stable Internet services that allow companies to have their server or servers in the cloud without having connection problems, not to mention security problems.

Soon, when the Network is better in the region, many security companies will migrate their storage equipment to the cloud, to large servers that they can access from anywhere ... the information will float through the air and now it will not only be the stable Internet connection that takes the greatest concern, will be the security of the data ... who will answer if the information is lost, stolen or the server where the cloud is hosted goes down?

Every day we see new advances in the subject, among some of the cloud providers we find Google, Microsoft and Amazon, and very recently Apple also launched its cloud.

I believe, from my ignorance, that we must look beyond and prepare ourselves so that not only electronic security and IT converge, but for computer security, the security of data that travels through the Network and that will be hosted in the cloud.

I don't know what her position is and I would like to know her. Tell me by writing to me [email protected] or comment on this editorial in www.ventasdeseguridad.com
