March 2012 : Security in Mexico

09/03/2012. In recent years in Mexico the use of electronic applications to store, transfer and process information has increased, so computer security has become a fundamental element for society that today use this technological tool.

For Luis Zamorano de la Torre, general director of the Private Security Organization (OSP), whose headquarters are located in the Mexican municipality of Naucalpan, west of Mexico City, computer security in the country is in "diapers" because there is not enough demand from people to have these services even though it has become a priority in other countries.

In an interview, the head of this organization stressed that there are graduates for this service in universities since "it is an area of opportunities that can exist together with technology, however there is not enough demand."

Although Zamorano de la Torre highlighted "in fact there was a change of maturity in the same sector, since before talking about private security was talking about just guards, private security was not understood in the transfer of values, custody of goods or escorts, in all those scenarios."

When asked if they have supported themselves with technology, the CEO replied "yes, that's right, how it has helped us as a private company, in providing better solutions to customers. Several years ago it was thought that teams would totally eliminate people but it was not so, since someone must be in the care of these mechanisms."

He continued: "In the internet part we are dealing with more things, before the security system was very stunted now it is no longer, since you can get into a computer and monitor certain activities."

The general director of OSP pointed out that for 23 years "we have seen how technology has evolved and innovated as it has been replacing the human element by the equipment, which does not mean that they eliminate them but they will be added with the provision of the service".

He added: "This means that you no longer have an element that I bet on an access point and that takes control now there are tools that support us in that provision."
