Diana Patricia Concha, our professional of the month in Colombia of this edition of the magazine VENTAS DE SEGURIDAD, successfully guides the Colombian company Imporcom Ltda., under the premises of honesty, innovation, creativity, experience and service.

By: Santiago Jaramillo H.
When Diana Patricia advanced her studies in Industrial Engineering at the Javeriana University of Bogotá, Colombia, she was far from imagining that some years later she would be at the head of one of the most representative companies in the security industry.

But today, after making an outstanding step by important companies in that country, this entrepreneur entrepreneur born in the city of Cali, has earned the admiration and respect of people linked to this industry thanks to her great spirit, which has led the company Imporcom Ltda. to position itself as a leader in the security sector in Colombia.

"Imporcom Ltda. is a purely family business, founded by my father in 1981, who always worked in the pharmaceutical industry, with a great experience in foreign trade, the idea of importing security equipment arose from some unplanned situation, let's say it was one of those coincidences of life that my father, Álvaro Concha, will be interested in this industry. So as well-known or recommended people asked him for some kind of equipment, he imported them and sold them to him," said Diana Patricia, who is the company's general manager.

The businesswoman also commented that "already around the 90s the security market was increasing just as Imporcom was growing as a marketing company of electronic security equipment. My parents worked both alone and seeing the increase in the demand for security they asked me to link me to the company, and that's how I came to collaborate with them in 1995, and in 1998 my father died and my two brothers, Adriana and Mauricio, also joined the company. Our professional of the month day by day faces new challenges in terms of the explicit relationship with her subordinates and collaborators. "The challenge is continuous, it is ensured that each of the officials belonging to the organization is up to date on such important issues as technological advances, technical service, guarantees, market trends, security studies, risk analysis, customer needs, among others," he argues.

Businesswoman and professional mother
Behind every great professional, there is always a bastion that gives that additional balance to do the job well, Diana Patricia Concha has precisely in her husband and her little daughter Isabella that incentive that every day encourages her to work harder.

"I enjoy being at home with my family, doing any activity, the only thing that separates me from work is the responsibility that life gives me as a mother, so I try to have as much time as possible for my daughter, instilling in her that study and effort are tools of success for life, that is, my priority is my family," says our professional of the month, who also has a postgraduate degree in Marketing from the Grancolombiano Polytechnic.

Regarding the objectives that a manager must meet when being in charge of a security company, Diana emphasizes that "the main objective is to always be attentive to market changes and, likewise, make very quick decisions, so it is important to always be alert to the threats and opportunities that the market offers".

Regarding the integral objectives of the company, our guest explains that "these are clear, we must have each and every one of the products that the market needs, ensure that we provide our customers with all the support and help necessary for their daily operation, be at the forefront of equipment, functionality, trends and requirements is vital; definitely when we know our client, we identify their needs and we manage to advise them on what they really need; in addition, we managed to locate our companies in a competitive environment and in accordance with the current requirements of the markets".

Positive view
Another aspect to highlight within the management that Diana Patricia advances at the head of Imporcom is her great drive and perseverance, which have led her to lead a market that in itself is quite competitive, but that in the future is encouraging.

"Regarding the economic our Latin American countries are experiencing a bit of a difficult situation, it is true that it has improved in recent times, but the resentment left by a variable economy, the devaluation in the United States (one of our main trading partners), still shows us a difficult stage to travel," says the professional of the month, who also adds that "despite all these drawbacks I see with enthusiasm a promising future in our companies, I firmly believe that the security market will resume its boom and participation compared to other markets that are currently affected by the same drawbacks".

Colombian Panorama
As far as the security market is concerned, as our guest acknowledges, Colombia is undoubtedly a very particular country, "the evolution of the Colombian market in the security sector has been important, it has grown compared to other sectors in percentages close to 22% which has allowed us to innovate, bring state-of-the-art technology and offer state-of-the-art equipment. We see today how the issue of security in our country is so important that from a small business, to a multinational company has at least one alarm system, "he says.

Diana Patricia also highlights that "at present security is thought of as a necessity and not as an expense, it is counted on, budgets are created for it and this is very valuable for us entrepreneurs in the sector, since we see possibilities for growth and professionalism, as well as an excellent opportunity to contribute a grain of sand in the tranquility and well-being of the people in our country".

Finally, the general manager of Imporcom also warns that to obtain lasting success in the sector it is necessary to invest in education, training and updating of all the personnel belonging to the company.

"It is important that the people who belong to this industry are always in search of updating, innovation and development of new products that meet the needs of the consumer, more today that the world of technology is available to everyone," emphasizes Diana Patricia, who also emphasizes that every organization "must never stop learning, grow, innovate and improve, this is what makes a company increasingly competent."
