A clear and coherent vision

Jeannette Sweatt, Boon Edam's Business Development Manager for Central, South America and the Caribbean, spoke exclusively with SECURITY SALES and gave her opinion on some specific points regarding access control in the banking sector.

1. In terms of access control in the banking sector, why is it important to implement equipment that allows the regulation, security and control of people's entry?
In addition to being buildings open to customers, banks are places where operational personnel work, this increases the risk of intrusion or unauthorized entry into departments or restricted areas where there is surely private and valuable information, hence the importance of separating the spaces: some for those who visit the entity and others for those who normally work there.

 The access control in a bank helps to separate the traffic of visitors with that of employees through the systems of turnstiles of optical lanes, which in addition to supporting the management of the flow, do so in the aesthetic part, an important item for this type of buildings. 

2. What characteristics and/or technical specifications should a good system (turnstile) meet for income control in the banking sector?
It all depends on the level of security required by the site, when it is very high it is recommended to use a security door, but usually bank branches use optical lanes, which fulfill a basic mission, detect an unwanted income. In my experience, in Latin America it is very common for these systems to be accompanied by a security guard and usually install the turnstiles in the lobby of banks.

On the other hand, I would like to highlight in the administrative part, the importance of having a service contract, since if financial institutions are going to make a significant investment in access control equipment, a maintenance plan is crucial to extend the useful life of the equipment.

3. In terms of architecture, aesthetics, optimization of resources, what benefits does a system such as those manufactured and provided by Boon Edam bring to a building of the banking order?
In addition to installing them, we manufacture the equipment, then we can adapt them to the corporate colors of the bank, this helps the architects with their different designs, it is also possible to graph in corporate logo on the wings of the turnstiles. Even so, the Boon Edam teams stand out for their avant-garde design and aesthetics, an example of this is their Lifeline series. 

4. How is the integration with other security subsystems? 
The equipment is friendly to any access control system, the end customer and the integrator determine which equipment best suits their specific needs and the level of security they require, the solutions can be through reading cards, QR code, proximity reader, etc.  We help the client to adapt in the most aesthetic way the device they choose to the turnstiles.
