With... U.S. security analysts have said that a dozen Chinese hacker groups are responsible for the vast majority of cyberattacks originating in China. In addition, experts have assured that the government supports the activities of these groups.
China has become one of the countries with the most computer security problems. A good part of the country's computer equipment does not have the necessary security measures or the optimal degree of updating to guarantee security. As a result, important botnets are formed in the country from which attacks are launched around the world.
Many of those attacks are being targeted against companies and security systems of U.S. organizations. Security experts in the country, according to the British newspaper The Guardian, have denounced that this type of attacks are managing to steal a large amount of private information and intellectual property valued at millions of dollars.
Experts report that China is one of the most frequent origins of these attacks. Apparently, although there are a large number of attacks, analysts say that they come from about a dozen organized hacker groups. These already established groups are able to coordinate attacks effectively and thus overcome a good part of the security measures. In addition, according to experts who have analyzed part of these attacks, the Chinese government could support these groups and not hinder their actions.
In this context, many companies have already called on the U.S. government to take action and invest in ensuring network security. Some companies feel helpless in the face of attacks and do not find protection or security in the security or control systems existing so far. Other companies directly claim to feel at war in the face of repeated attacks on their systems.
The United States, like other countries such as the United Kingdom, has confirmed on several occasions that it intends to increase its investment in cybersecurity. In the Us case, there are already army bodies specialized in cybersecurity and the FBI is increasing the number of operations in which it pursues computer crimes. However, if the opinion of experts that China supports hackers is correct, the situation becomes complicated and makes governments have to expand their involvement in security.
The situation also highlights the need for security agreements. In the case of the United States and China, even if the security forces identify the hackers, it is practically impossible for there to be an agreement to bring them to justice. Experts believe that one of the most effective ways to fight cybercriminals would be to have international security agreements and standards, but at the moment there is no indication that this will occur in the short term.
